Recovering Original Self & The Human Spirit

Our “Original Self” is an identity, a most core part of ourselves who is very pure and true to our original design. For most people though, it is hidden underneath multiple layers of protective mechanisms and other, more “practical” facets of self.

Many in prayer ministry settings have reported finding a child hidden within who was made out of translucent light, and that when this child was recovered and rapidly grown to adulthood, it showed up as the most pure-hearted and godly version of themselves they could never have imagined being.

Others who have recovered and explored their Original Self have spoken of an identity who was closest to their divine purpose and who had the most access to spiritual experiences, being closest to their human spirit. Being such a valued part of ourselves though, our Original Self identity is typically surrounded by “bodyguards,” so to speak, to protect it from damage in the outside world.

In the most simple situation, there are at least going to be the three facets of what many people think of as their “Core” or everyday persona; the Functional Self, the Guardian Self, and the Emotional Self standing in the way of Original Self ever seeing the light of day. Original Self was often stuffed away at an infant stage while our Guardian Self (which is designed to manage trust, safety, and protection), our Functional Self (which operates in higher competency and takes responsibility for getting necessary things done in our practical, outward lives) and our Emotional Self (which carries our trauma and connects at a deeper emotional level) all handle the burdens of life in a broken world.

For more info on these three facets of everyone’s core identity, you may check out these slides from Heartsync, a ministry that emphasizes the subject:

In a more realistic situation (having only four aspects of self is too simple for anyone who has existed on planet earth for very long), there are going to be many fragments who have split from these identities and who play similar roles, such as protecting, carrying pain, etc.

In a more complex situation where someone has lived through regular and intense abuse at an early age, there are going to be more heavily dissociated parts such as full alter identities and more intense defense mechanisms against accessing deeper wounds. If things have been especially severe, an alter or group of alters can be living the person’s life on the surface while the true core identities are all suppressed underneath, remaining at child stages.

In some cases, facets of the core may even be missing, may be trapped in other realms. Some call these “regions of captivity.” Anna Mendez Farrel wrote a book by that name on the subject of rescuing parts of people from various spiritual realms of bondage.

The enemy sometimes takes advantage of trauma and generational sins to capture parts of us and to take them into these realms, just to make it all more difficult for us (and to further his agenda in certain ways). Just as significant aspects of us are “seated in heavenly places in Christ at the right hand of the Father” while we physically live on the earth, there is a counterfeit to this in which the enemy takes advantage of what access he can get to us and sticks parts of us in hellish places while we exist on earth. This even happens to Original Self and other facets of the core in some instances.

According to Arthur Burk, as recorded in his “Tools for Freedom” seminar series (available for purchase on his Austrian website), ritual abuse (RA) survivors “always” have their Original Self trapped in a realm called “outer darkness.” He says that perpetrators systematically and intentionally set children up to get their Original Selves trapped in this realm, because it is a realm which they can’t possibly get themselves back from without help, and because not having access to one’s Original Self makes their healing process more difficult.

Burk says that outer darkness is a place where there is no time or space, where there is unproductive, unending sorrow, as scripture speaks of “weeping and gnashing of teeth” in outer darkness. He says that people who have parts of themselves stuck there show two potential signs: unproductive weeping that never resolves, and a sense of weightlessness or free-falling coming upon them at different times. I’ve also heard one or two RA survivors share that their Original Selves had been trapped in a realm of fiery torment before being rescued.

Burk has a specific protocol for RA survivors to get portions of their human spirit recovered from places of captivity and seated on a “seat of dominion” where their spirit can be fully effective, then getting Original Self out of captivity, walking Original Self through a healing process on one’s personal timeline, and finally using the human spirit and Original Self to heal the fractured parts of the soul in a way that only the human spirit working with Original Self can. More explanation is found in the third volume of his “Tools for Freedom” series. (I haven’t used this protocol, but am just letting you know it’s out there.)

So begins our story:

A friend was scheduled to pray with me, but there was some miscommunication, and I was left out of the session. Two others joined, and the subject of the prayer time turned out to be going after a part who had been crying out for help through this woman’s dreams. They were led to rescue this part from being trapped in another dimension (a region of captivity), and it was identified as a part of her core. Missing the memo, thinking they had been covering some random and unrelated emergency, I rescheduled my prayer time with her to begin immediately after their session finished.

I was told that they had found this three-year-old part trapped in a cave and that the three-year-old was in charge of a group of older parts. The three-year-old had the maturity of an adult, was recognized as the part in the dreams crying out for help, and seemed to be carrying many facets of woundedness and ability. The older parts she was in charge of were more one-dimensional. They each seemed to carry a single issue or have a single job, and to look to the toddler for guidance.

The ministers bound up the demonic captors in this cave and got rid of them (a common step that is needed before getting parts out of captivity) then began communicating with the three-year-old and the others. These parts turned out to be fearful of leaving the cave, and the three-year-old was very angry at the adult she belonged to for not coming to help sooner. Jesus was invited to relate to and to earn the trust of the group. The adult receiving prayer also needed to apologize to the toddler for not listening to her cries and coming to help her earlier.

As the toddler and the older parts gained trust, they became willing to go with Jesus, to leave the cave they had been hiding in, and he brought them back from that dimension to the woman they had been taken from.

When I joined in, the toddler still had a bad attitude towards the adult she had been brought back to. She was identified as part of the Original Self, or maybe even the whole Original Self. From her place of captivity, she had observed the woman’s life and strongly disagreed with some of her choices. This Original Self was very strong-willed and believed that the rest of the woman had let others take advantage of her far too much. This was one angry and obstinate three-year-old, who had some really good points to make in the midst of her bad attitude and angry accusations.

I walked the woman through listening to the accusations and looking for truth in them, trying to find problems to work on resolving and trying to reconcile with this previously missing, angry part of her core. It was slow going, but we were making progress.

At one point, I began to see a dark portal behind this identity, and we sought the Lord about what opened it in the first place. She discerned that ancestors had bartered away the Original Self of the one who would fill this spot in the generational line for the sake of gaining occult power. We repented for this on behalf of the ancestors who participated in that, and we closed the portal. Also, a device was discerned on the Original Self’s head, which seemed to be related to picking up frequencies from the enemy. That left along with the portal through a simple command.

As soon as the portal and the device were removed, this Original Self immediately grew to full adulthood, became significantly taller than the body of the person who they belonged to. She instantly changed from a negatively slanted, angry part who obstinately refused to let her anger be removed, to an angelic personality who was supremely agreeable to anything that would progress her healing. Issues were quickly removed, and she was soon ready to forgive and be combined with the rest of the woman she had so harshly been accusing and rejecting before.

This identity was revealed to be the container in which the rest of the woman belonged within, and as we prayed for integration, she felt both sides of the process. She felt herself being poured into the container, and at the same time felt herself as the container into which the rest of her was being poured.

After this healing and integration of her Original Self, my friend felt six inches taller and began to set strong boundaries in many areas of her life where she had previously allowed herself to be walked over. From that point forward, she also began making more responsible decisions in various practical areas which she’d had huge difficulty with for years.

In my own life, I seemed to recover a part of my Original Self from captivity within a cave, where many preverbal (very early life, in the womb and such) fragments were trapped. I ran into this identity long after I had received ministry to many other areas, and was not particularly even looking for it. I was just allowing the Lord to dig up whatever he wanted in the area of preverbal wounds. Maybe this part of me was fractured very early.

As this recovered part of my OS was healed up and restored to the rest of me, I found my overall Original Self to become a tremendous asset in my prayer times. This part of me had become so incredibly pure and spiritually centered, that I was more confident in his ability to get answers from God than the rest of me, and had a lot of confidence that he could bring the rest of me into real encounters with the Lord on a more profound level.

Caves are not the only place parts of us can be found in captivity. It could be just about any structure, dimension or environment. There is typically a need to get the part in captivity to break agreement with enemy captors, and then to get rid of the captors. Sometimes the parts will immediately agree to be taken to a safer place. At other times, some issues may need to be worked through first, such as the fear of leaving or lack of trust, as in this case.

Recovering the Human Spirit:

Another person I prayed with not long ago had been struggling with a sense of being separated from their spiritual life, and this showed up in a variety of ways. They especially felt that their connection with God was dulled.

At one point in their process, I was shown a house of death, and this house was split into two sides. There was a light side and a dark side. On the light side was a white being of light who was surrounded by a fog of confusion and who was stuck in a seated position. On the dark side, a man was expressing emotional anguish. Some kind of barrier separated the two sides.

Discerning things further, I began to pick up on the specific issues the man on the dark side of the house was carrying, along with his characteristics. All the things I called out lined up exactly with how her father was on his worst day, when he was in his most triggered and aggressive state. This turned out to be a fragment of the woman’s dad trapped inside this structure. On the light side of the house, I picked up that the shining being was the woman’s human spirit.

I prayed both the dad’s fragment and the human spirit through a few steps of getting cleansed and healed, and got both of them out of this house, restoring the woman’s spirit back to function with the rest of her.

From that point forward, she noticed a stronger connection with God, a sense of deep awareness of spiritual truth rather than only an intellectual agreement, a new sense of life within and an oppression of death having been removed. Her spiritual discernment was significantly increased also. She found it easier to focus and to think clearly.

There are many different scenarios where the human spirit or parts of the human spirit can be rescued from captivity. I’ve found them in an underwater place called “the depths,” trapped in locations in outer space, stuck in enemy devices of bondage and containment, or in a grave realm which I believe is “Sheol.” Getting parts of the human spirit out of Sheol often looks like dealing with enemy guards first, breaking open doors or a barrier, calling the spirit out of that realm of death into life, and cleansing the spirit from “graveclothes” of defilement and such.

Seven portions of the human spirit may be present with the person or may not be. These seven seem to be according to the seven redemptive gifts listed in Romans 12, which Arthur Burk has expounded upon in great detail. There seems to be a core or “Neshemah” of the human spirit which may also be broken into pieces and contained in places of bondage until rescued. Parts of the spirit may have been damaged and fractured even before conception on the way to the body, and need to be rescued from a heavenly realm.

For more on ministry to the human spirit, here is a good overview of many aspects by Dr. Rob Ruckert and Dan Duval:

So, the point is that the most core parts of our being, our Original Self and aspects of our human spirit, may be found in many different conditions, even in captivity outside our body. Finding, healing, and restoring these can make a significant difference in one’s life. Some people may be immediately ready to access these most prized areas of self, while others may need to work through healing more surface aspects such as woundedness and guardian defenses before their deeper aspects of self allow themselves to be accessed.

For a more in-depth description of the inner world and how ministry to different facets of self, the human spirit, and many other things can look, check out my upcoming book, Divine Healing for Spirit, Soul & Body, coauthored with Diane Moyer. It should be out in a week or less.

Combining Deliverance and Inner Healing

Models of deliverance and inner healing abound. Many models emphasize one area or the other, while some combine both. I usually emphasize the healing side, but have found deliverance to be a necessary part of doing that.

I personally can be left shaking my head at things many folks get into in the name of deliverance, but that’s another subject. Sometimes it just comes down to being caught up in fear and buying into the enemy’s common tactic to make himself seem a lot bigger and badder and more in charge of things than he really is.

After Jesus’ resurrection, he said that all authority in heaven and in earth had been delivered over to him. This left zero authority to the Devil and any of his principalities whatsoever. Consider that. Jesus also sent his disciples out with “authority over all the power of the enemy,” leaving no wiggle room for an argument that even though they don’t have authority, they could still possibly use some kind of brute force to get away with something. All the principalities and powers have been disarmed and defeated at the cross, and placed squarely under our feet according to the clear message of the New Testament.

The only way the demonic gets any ability to do anything in our lives is when we as humans have given them that power. In a nutshell, this is why, when the enemy seems to be able to resist authority in Christ in a deliverance situation, it is never because the demons are that big and bad and such, but only because there is some agreement that needs to be broken on the person’s part. Or, maybe the one praying doesn’t believe in their authority (since it operates by faith).

Getting rid of footholds so that it becomes easy to remove stubborn critters can be as simple as repentance, generational repentance, a simple prayer of confession, etc. Other times though, the footholds are more ingrained and deeper aspects of the heart must be accessed and healed, emotional defenses must be gotten through, and fractured parts must be worked with when they are the ones maintaining the agreement.

This is one reason why I’ve found deeper healing to be, most of the time, much more helpful than only trying to do deliverance, even for the purpose of deliverance itself. Since the enemy has no power or authority other than what we give him, if he seems to have power in someone’s life, the key is to resolve the issue in the person, not to focus on fighting the demonic itself.

Sometimes though, simple deliverance makes a huge difference, and many times it helps people to some degree. Critters can often be hanging around simply because nobody has told them to go, or there may only be a need for a simple “I break agreement with —–” before they can be gotten rid of.

Here are a few examples of what mixing deliverance and inner healing has been looking like for me lately:

A man was asking for healing related to his marriage. He was being triggered to react heavily in anger in some areas, beyond his control, and he wanted that to stop.

I was first shown a squid/octopus like creature, and heard the words “mind-control.” I had a sense that this squid thing would latch onto the man’s mind and cause confusion, cause mind control. I recognized this as a typical fruit of an occult spirit, and that, for some reason, octopus spirits have had a tendency to relate to mind control.

The feedback I then got from the man was that when he would argue with his wife, he not only would get triggered into anger, but would be overcome with confusion and would pace around unable to communicate, overwhelmed at not being able to think straight.

Praying into the origin of the squid/octopus/mind control thing, I was shown occultists in the generational line inviting it in through rituals involving mind control. I had the man come out of agreement with the rituals, the mind control, and several related things I was led to have him speak out, and then I commanded the spirit to go. The man said that he then felt something lifting off of his brain and could hear sounds of suction cups coming loose, such as one would find on tentacles.

I was shown that there was more to this squid thing though, that there was actually a mechanical framework left over after the squid tissue had been removed, and I prayed to have the mechanical squid disassembled as well. At the head of this mechanical squid, I saw a compartment with a human spirit trapped inside, and if I remember correctly, it was a sacrificial victim passed down the generational line through the occult rituals. I prayed to get the human spirit set free and encountering the Lord, then observed him moving onto heaven.

All this is subjective of course, and I look at the fruit to test things. In this case, the man found relief from confusion/mind control attacks, though he did report that the symptoms tried to afflict him once more. He took authority over it though and it immediately left. With deliverance, it is common for the enemy to re-attack and to seek to re-create symptoms of old strongholds. Many times, all that is necessary is for one to demonstrate that they believe in and will use their authority a few times, and he gets the message. He stops beating his head against the wall. There is a difference between fending off a baseless attack from the outside and dealing with one related to a spirit who still has footholds in a person’s life.

Next, I had the man trace the anger he felt with his wife back to its origin. Lo and behold, it turned out to relate to an issue of control. It turned out that parts were carrying the anger. It only took some quick, simple prayers asking the parts to come out of agreement with counterfeit/religious spirits, to get the real Jesus to them, and to let him heal them up and remove the anger and woundedness related to control.

There were a few more things we did related to other issues, but the man reported weeks later that he was no longer being triggered into anger with his wife like he had before. He was able to communicate in a totally new way with her.

Another person was feeling shut down and blah inside, was losing most motivation and going half-asleep when trying to pray, and they attributed it to (not kidding) being treated roughly by a deliverance minister a few days prior. Real issues had been called out, spirits had left, but the minister’s dogmatic mentalities and heavy handed approach left the person feeling violated and processing the trauma of the ministry session itself. If going by rote, I would have gone after the emotions associated with this, which might have been a productive way, but instead, I asked the Lord what he wanted me to pray.

I was shown this person in a bed, half asleep, and unable to wake up fully because they were being drugged. There was a spirit there which was putting them to sleep. Apparently, this was behind their blahness and literal falling asleep in prayer. I had them come out of agreement with the spirit and told it to go. The person felt it leave and said that most of their sleepiness/blahness left at that point.

Next, I was shown three jewels or gems rotating in their chest area, connected to each other. I was led to have these pulled to the surface a bit, cleansed, and activated or energized, then repositioned within their chest. The person seemed to feel an increase in energy from that as well. I have no idea what the three rotating, connected gems in a person’s chest are about.

A more far out example is from someone who has been carrying more complex things in the spiritual realm due to a lot of illuminati genetics. I tended to see lots of ufos, space craft, computerized and electronic equipment, and things of that nature when praying for them, along with other associated themes. Later, I heard that some with lots of experience consider an illuminati background to always be heavily tied into the UFO/alien thing, whatever those actually are. I don’t care so much what they are; I just get rid of them, and I’m pretty sure that’s all the attention they need. Effectiveness is found in rest and reliance on Jesus, not in freaking out and scouring the internet for dubiously sourced ancient alien bloodline theories.

I was first shown a planet, then a being (spiritual being I presume) dwelling there and working some sort of controls that would adjust this planet’s alignment. Light would reflect from the planet according to how it was aligned, and would be broadcast to earth, where it would interface with this person’s energy field. (Science has shown that we all have an energy field, so it isn’t just a “New Age” concept. You may check out “The Body Electric” by Robert O. Becker if you want to nerd out on that subject.)

As the light would enter this person’s electric field, it would act as if it were tendrils, searching and probing inward and trying to reach certain “buttons” that were found within the person. If a button was reached, it would set off a program within a computerized system, and a cascade of various problems would ensue. At the helm of this computerized system was a demonic winged creature, who operated a gearshift. When the demon would shift gears, the system of bondage would shift into a different program, and presumably affect the person’s body and mind in a different way. This would be very effective for the purpose of psychological warfare, for creating a sense of confusion, complexity, and hopelessness.

What I was shown powering this system of bondage were a series of orbs. The orbs had white light on the inside, but were encased in blue light. The white light was the person’s human spirit, and pieces of it had been captured and used to power this system of oppression through these orbs. I had a sense of the blue light being a counterfeit light, used to control and encase the white light, the true power source. In the New Age, blue light is really a big emphasis, and many counterfeit spirits do show up as “blue light beings.” Notice that this whole demonic structure was actually being powered by captured parts of this person’s spirit.

I was led to recover the captured parts of the spirit, to remove the blue light and to restore the white light back to the core person. I was led to then dismantle the gearshift and the various programs that would be shifted into, as well as to destroy the computer system, buttons, and all else associated with these things. Getting rid of the winged creature demon was also part of it.

This was only one small portion of the unusual devices and such that I ran across with this particular person, and I couldn’t tell you what percentage of a difference removing this in itself would have made for sure. All I can say is that I was following Holy Spirit and praying what he showed me. In this person’s case, they had already walked through many different kinds of extensive renunciations and deliverance approaches, and tend to not notice a whole lot going on as a result of such things. All we could point to after the fact was that they found themselves getting in touch with a suppressed area of their emotional woundedness at a deeper level that night.

So, where others have noticed immediate and significant results from such simple deliverance as described earlier, this person only noticed more awareness of suppressed hurts after a seemingly large stronghold was removed. Besides this stronghold, I believe I had clearly been shown such things as huge alien motherships coming through portals in space to attack with armies of spacecraft at their side, NASA type space shuttle programs being operated by foreign human spirits hiding behind their cranium, conglomerate parts of sacrificed victims of occult rituals passed down the generational line and mashed together into a single identity somehow hanging around them, and all sorts of different things I haven’t seen before. So interesting, huh?

Overall, I believe I was shown in a dream that the big key for getting this person out of bondage was not to be mainly found in going after their inherited programs and all that “weird” stuff (like what I just described above), but to be found in healing their emotions. This makes sense, because so many strongholds that present themselves as so highly complex and overpowering and high ranking in Satan’s kingdom, etc., are found to only have any significant foothold at all because of a simple emotional issue such as resentment or shame, or a simple agreement with fear or something of that nature. These are often carried by a fractured part that the core personality may not be used to being in touch with, and so may be unlikely to get resolved through traditional ministry approaches. Our defeated foe is a master at creating an illusion of omnipotence, but has been shown to be 99.9999% hot air far too many times to count.

After all is said and done, with all the crazy computerized, alien mothershiip-y, portals in space-y, hogepodge parts of sacrificed victims into one being, and such things that have been used against this person to make everything seem so complex and hopeless, I’m expecting that they will find easy relief from most of it after processing some emotions and receiving healing on that level. At least, I think that’s what the Lord said.

Of course, the programs and devices have worked to hinder access to the emotions and to punish the person for trying, and so clearing some of that out can help to get easier access. Both deliverance and healing are useful. Overall, I’m encouraged and very thankful for how the Lord has helped this person move forward in their healing in so many ways beyond what I’ve shared. I’ve got lots of hope for them and respect for how they’ve made it this far.

Finally, I want to give a shout out to some deliverance based ministries that I recommend for those seeking such things:

I found freedomencounters to be the most powerful single prayer experience anybody led me through, and have found others to get similar help. Their prayer method is not a panacea. Anybody I’ve known who has done their prayer still needed more, but I highly recommend them for the real breakthroughs they consistently get:

Healing is a Spiral Staircase (for those seeking to understand a difficult journey)

I had a dream about a person in my life who I sometimes pray with, where I was shown the big-picture structure of their woundedness.

I was shown a foundation of the structure, which was revealed to be the intense emotional and physical abuse they had regularly suffered at the hands of their own mother (who was a sociopath, in my amateur opinion). I was given a sense of the nature of the abuse, how it affected them, producing great insecurity and deep problems with self-worth.

Then, I saw that there was a ceiling to the structure which presented to the outside world, how this person had learned to survive by compensating for their deep sense of self-deprecation and vulnerability through a hard-core, tough as nails survivor persona. They had this side to them that could be described well with such terms as: “all or nothing,” “black and white,” “no compromise,” “boldly confrontational,” and even sometimes, “take no prisoners.”

Between the foundation and the ceiling of this structure, the walls or support system was made up of large spiral pathways which traversed the circumference of it all, and I woke up either unable to remember what these spiral pathways meant, or not to have comprehended them in the first place. I have since gotten to pray a little bit with this person, and have seen significant breakthrough, along with hearing later about how the Lord himself met with them and brought some further healing on their own time.

More recently, I have been praying for a while with a friend who has come from an even more intense background of abuse. I see a lot of progress in this person’s life overall, and on a good day they do as well, but at other times they have struggled with feeling like the same or similar issues to what we have prayed over already, which were apparently healed for a few days or weeks, would always come back to haunt them once again. When they experience these feelings, it is more than a little discouraging and confusing. For the sake of confidentiality, I’ll call the issue “abandonment.”

There are times where one prayer session produces (apparently) complete and long-term resolution for a serious, seemingly life-defining issue. I love those instances. They are like a bit of heaven on earth to me. (They are a bit of heaven on earth, but really no more so than the healing the other person is receiving in the midst of a more difficult process.)

This person’s process involves healing for a lot of very hurting fractured parts, many carrying a similar theme of wounding from abandonment, and I’ve tried to assure them that abandonment issues surfacing after a part or a number of parts have been healed from the same or similar thing doesn’t mean that the previous ones weren’t truly healed or that any problems actually “came back.” It only means that, as I’ve seen plenty of times before, another wounded part or parts are surfacing in the person’s overall system which need the same kind of healing as the previous ones.

As more parts get healing, the difference becomes more noticeable in the person’s life overall (as it already has for this person in very significant ways), until all the parts and related issues are healed and it completely goes. If the abandonment (or any other) theme of woundedness is particularly deep, this journey is likely to feel worse before it starts permanently feeling better, as the person’s system opens up in a safe, trusting environment to their most vulnerable areas and they start to get in touch with deeper, previously hidden layers of more severe pain, leading to the most significant experiences of permanent healing as a result of letting the Lord minister to the places which had been so walled off before.

The good news is that, unlike simple deliverance of a surface level stronghold, when such deep healing is accomplished, it becomes impossible for the issue to ever return. For the problem to ever come back, the person would need to become a child again, at the level of when they were originally wounded, and go through exactly the same things all over again, not as the adult they have become with a strong psyche, strong coping skills, and a strong relationship with God, but as that defenseless, vulnerable child who they never again will be after receiving healing. Where people are used to a deliverance mentality of fighting off demons who would “come back” to an “empty house” (where the demonic was removed but where truth and righteousness had not been established), this simply cannot happen when you heal the person, because they are the house. When you heal the person, you are changing the “house” itself at the most profound level to now be incompatible with the demonic.

So, if the enemy and the woundedness can’t ever just “come back,” why do so many in healing processes from severe hurts experience such ups and downs, where it seems like they are whole and free for an evening, a few days, or maybe a week or month, and then they are right back in a pit that feels almost exactly like the hopeless, miserable pit they were in before? If they really examine things logically, they usually find that this pit is slightly different than the previous one, with a slightly different lie behind the pain, a bit different of a trigger, that it is a bit different flavor of the same theme. But in these states of overwhelming emotions, it may be difficult to take mere logic seriously. Pain has a way of overriding that until it gets healed, and it can often be easily healed in the same way as the previous pain was healed. The lessons learned in applying healing to layers one through five often apply to layers six through nine in the same person, and so it becomes smoother and easier in this way as you go.

This is just how all humans process healing in real life, in layers rather than all at once. When there is a major and severe lifetime theme of a certain type of issue, you can bet that there will be more than just one or two layers of it needing to be ministered to, more than just one or two fractured parts carrying a lifetime of extreme abuse and neglect. Often, as the person just continues on receiving healing rather than giving up because their whole life didn’t change after a small number of prayer sessions, looking to the Lord as their answer rather than putting all their hope in a certain human or a certain methodology, much more ground begins to be taken from the enemy and from the woundedness, the balance begins to shift, and fruit becomes more and more evident.

For those saying, “where is that in the Bible,” consider that no biblical character was ever “completely healed and delivered.” All of them were in a lifetime healing process with ups and downs, with re-occuring issues, and with unresolved issues up until the end. We may be used to certain hyped-up preachers making things sound different in an effort to whip up our emotions and keep the money coming in, but most of us have seen that the long-term fruit of that is usually pretty shallow.

All the people Jesus ministered healing and deliverance to still needed more. Jesus warned them that their house had been swept clean and empty and that the enemy would return seven times worse. (They had only received a surface level of healing and deliverance so far, because it was all they were willing to receive.) In alignment with Jesus’ prediction, the same multitudes who received from him to some degree in his earthly ministry went on to participate with the powers of darkness in shouting, “Give us Barrabbas!”, “Crucify him!” and, “Let his blood be upon us and upon our children!” The apostles who spent three years living, praying with, and being discipled by Jesus all failed him in his final hours, revealing that they had remaining issues in their lives and had not yet been “completely healed and delivered.”

Peter struggled with legalism, hypocrisy, and fear of man years after the resurrection and after his experience at Pentecost. Paul confessed to having “fears within” in the beginning of 2 Corinthians, and to harboring an “angelos of Satan” near the end of the same letter, which he was apparently not yet ready to be delivered from. All the apostles (except possibly John) died at the hands of persecution, which couldn’t have happened if the enemy didn’t have some kind of access to them. The Pentecostal/Charismatic fantasy of coming to a meeting, getting hands laid on you and becoming perfectly fixed in five seconds of prayer has simply never played out in scripture or in anybody’s real life experience that I’ve ever met.

Getting back to the story, this particular person going through major ups and downs, like many in the midst of such a process, was struggling with doubts over whether they were really being healed at all, whether they were only being deceived and played games with by an enemy who was letting them feel like they got total healing just to get their hopes up for a few days or weeks, but then smacking them back down to reality every time. They reached out to friends who had experience with deeper healing, asking for opinions beyond mine. Also, they began desperately praying to the Lord for input.

They were shown a vision of a spiral staircase, and they began to understand that their healing was like this spiral staircase, moving upwards but in a circular fashion. In a sense, it could feel like they were only going in circles as they experienced times of peace and freedom from feelings of abandonment, then times of feeling major abandonment strongholds coming to the surface until they received ministry to the batch of parts carrying them, then a time of feeling peace and wholeness until the next batch of wounded, abandoned parts would surface once more, needing the same kind of healing. The good news was that they were not just going in circles, but making real progress.

Immediately checking back with one of the people they had sent messages out to, they read an answer from one with lots of experience. The message began, “Think of it like a spiral staircase…” Further good news was that they went forward with receiving healing for the areas which had recently surfaced, encouraged that they were, in fact, making progress.

Hearing this person’s journey and revelation, I began to understand a bit about the spiral staircases I had seen in walls of the structure in my dream. This is a revelation in process of course, but it seems that all of our healing processes are spiral in nature rather than linear. We face some issues and get healing for them, then some more come to the surface, and we get healing for those, and anybody I’ve ever known has been in a lifetime process of this.

Some run up the spiral very quickly, experiencing the ups and downs on opposite sides daily or weekly if they are really getting help and digging deeply. Some are going through such intense battles internally that they are forced to move this quickly or to just wallow in despair and denial. Others walk up the spiral casually, without much focus on such things, preferring to make slow progress without the stress of facing too much too quickly. More people probably wander aimlessly back and forth on the spiral, not knowing if progress is even possible or that there is anything they can do to expedite it, maybe just camping in one place for years at a time with no hope of moving forward other than if God somehow “sovereignly” came down to push them forward. I think these are the people who got “totally healed and delivered” ten or twenty years ago and don’t need any more such “new Christian” experiences or “striving.” (I’m not saying striving is good; I am saying that many people use the term to avoid anything that involves facing things they don’t want to face.)

I would say our experience of these things tends to get lighter and more peaceful overall as we move farther up, but I don’t want to make it sound like anybody’s process is going to be totally comparable to anybody else’s. It seems to me that everybody’s stuff is so different that, while the basic principles are universal, the practical expression is never quite the same.

This is often a hard reality to consider though, that we are in a lifetime journey up a spiral staircase rather than an instant arrival at having it all together. It is true that the work was finished at the cross and that we are considered perfect in that greater, eternal realm outside time and space. Still, there is also the practical side of things that, within time and space, we are walking out our redemption day by day, receiving grace and partnering with it to bring what has already been won for us into this realm. Sorry, it’s still a spiral.

A common objection sounds like, “If God is really God and he wants me healed, why can’t he just bypass all the parts and issues and spiral staircases and whatever else, and just fix everything instantly, right now in response to my cry for him to rescue me?” I agree that the suffering I witness some people living in, even in the midst of their process of healing and of earnestly crying out to God for help, completely SUCKS ASS. At the same time, we need to realize that God is not only all powerful and all loving, but that he has perfect integrity.

This means that he will not, no matter what, violate his own commitments and principles of righteousness. He has given us free will and has given us an environment of freedom to operate in where he refuses to control us or to control our outcome. This requires that we humans have the ability to dig ourselves and those who follow us into some deep and intricate pits. For God to remain integrous, he cannot just violate our freedom and our process, take away the sovereignty he has given us and the parts of our hearts which have come into agreement with the enemy, and force us 100 levels up the spiral at once. If he were to do that, he wouldn’t be who he is anymore, but would be an almighty being with the character of the Devil, which would actually be a lot scarier than the prospect of needing to walk through a process.

So, instead of bypassing all the steps we have created within us (or inherited, or have allowed others to create in us during times of vulnerability,) what I’ve been shown and what I believe is that he empowers us to move up the spiral faster than humanly possible, but still at the pace we and the relevant, deeper parts of our hearts choose, to break through barriers humanly impassable. He does this with promises to somehow make it all work out for the good, that somehow the suffering of this present time will not be considered worthy to be compared with the glory that will be revealed in us (Romans 8:18).

I could testify to you of someone just recently who, after two quick prayer times of healing in the womb, has been brought out of a place of near suicide into a stable place of peace and joy with no such suicidal ideations. At the same time, I could mention those in the roughest processes who I have prayed with over and over with barely perceptible if any known results, and I could probably tell you about every level in between.  Some people’s experiences of healing sound like the greatest news ever to come straight out of heaven’s publicity department, yet, still, some other people’s current experience in their process… really sucks… (I won’t literally say that twice in the same post).

I don’t believe God is holding anything back from the second group that he gave to the first, but I’m convinced they are merely on a different place in their spiral, as well as being on a different spiral altogether, as everybody is on a very different journey.

I’ll leave you with this: If God would throw away his integrity, violate our sovereignty over our own process, and just make everything instantly better because we want everything to be better, one would think he would do that for the entire world, and that if such a thing were possible, we would be living in an instant utopia rather than co-laboring to bring redemption to creation one step at a time as we actually are.

On second thought, if God were to throw away his integrity like that, I’m not sure he would any longer be a person interested in making the world any better. I’m pretty sure that would lead to an actual cosmic proportioned sick joke much worse than what the enemy is able to play on us for the limited period of time that he currently is.

Inviting Jesus to Work in Your Inner World

In recent times I’ve become more aware of needs for further healing in my own life. Working with lots of other people’s stuff can be a mirror, and Holy Spirit has gotten some things through to me. Healing more fragments has been a big aspect of my recent process.

When I first started working with fragments, my experiences were more dramatic. Internal and even external shifts were obvious. Spiritual experiences and sensations were sometimes overwhelming. Those seemed to be bigger or more significant fractured parts than what I’m able to dig up now. Today, all my experiences of this sort of thing are very subtle. Often, the results in my life are nearly imperceptible. The remaining fragments seem to be so much smaller than the ones I was getting healed originally. I’m led to continue inviting the Lord to heal my fragments though, with a pretty clear promise that it will greatly open up certain areas of my spiritual life that I long to have opened most.

Many times, I tend to go right after the source of the problem when I pray with someone. This often looks like going straight to a felt or discerned wound or fractured part, and healing it directly or inviting the Lord into that place to begin working. I love seeing the evidence of change after clearly getting in touch with an issue and then getting it resolved so that only peace remains where there had been significant turmoil before. I love seeing the fruit of such ministry in a testable way rather than just going “by faith” (which is a legitimate way to operate, though for some it can actually be more like wishful thinking).

Today though, I have a hard time going after my own stuff so directly since I’ve done so much of it in the past and seem to have traced down and resolved just about all the noticeable, painful stuff I could consciously get in touch with.

I’m still aware of various “themes” or life-issues I could use lots of progress on, but I don’t tend to feel any strongly wounded emotions connected to them, nor do I find individual parts carrying many felt pains. I just know that there must be something that needs more healing, and other trustworthy people have discerned that I need to continue receiving this sort of healing as well.

It isn’t that I don’t have any significant wounds, but maybe the wounds remaining are made up of so many subtle components contributing to the larger issue that they are very difficult to track down.

What I’m finding more effective for me these days, rather than feeling the problems and starting from there, is to just establish a connection with the Lord and then to unleash him into my inner world, observing where he goes and what he does. He seems to find all sorts of parts and strongholds that I would never expect, and which are usually too subtle for me to even become aware of in any other way.

I’m going to share a recent example of how this has looked for me in practice, with a few teaching moments along the way for those who would like to try it themselves:

I used an image of a campfire as a starting point, and invited Jesus to join me there. As a Jesus looking figure showed up in my imagination, I used my intention to look into his eyes, tuning into my feelings and senses to see what kind of discernment I would get of his nature as reflected in his eyes, whether it was the true, all good Jesus or not.

I began to have a sense of all good things, affectionate things, joyful things, as I used my intention to look into the eyes, and so I was assured that this was the real Jesus. I do tend to check rather than assume, because I only want the real Jesus ministering to the most vulnerable parts of me, not just anybody who may get away with showing up sometimes and looking like a bearded guy in a robe.

Another way you can check if it’s the real Jesus is by observing the nature and fruit of what he does. Is it life giving, effective, and comforting, or is it abusive and reinforcing of woundedness? In this case, I let him lead and minister to me, releasing affection and other kinds of input to me as an adult for a while.

After a bit, I invited him to move in my inner world (observed through my imagination), to see if there was anything he wanted to heal. He immediately went to a number of young “me’s” (fragments of me) and began healing them up. As they were healed and moved on to a better location than where they had been found, apparently beamed up into heaven, he then went over to a large bubble and began pulling on something deep within the bubble.

It turned out that this was a fragment of me stuck in the womb that he was pulling on. This little guy seemed to like where he was, just chilling in a sac of amniotic fluid, but he was also carrying bondage the Lord wanted to remove. Jesus was pulling him to the surface with fervor, and even shouting into the bubble, expressing urgency about his need for healing. The “me” inside the amniotic fluid was stirred into action and began to allow Jesus to heal him. He was taken out of the bubble, birthed into the world, and then brought to a better place to continue processing. My job, during all this, was just to observe and let Jesus do all the work.

He began changing the atmosphere of this location within my inner self, opening the heavens over it to allow sunlight, warmth, and all kinds of good things to fill it. He even seemed to set various objects up for the sake of reflecting or refracting light. He then began to pull on some kind of rope, bringing a large group of parts up to the surface of this area from underground. I heard the word “abandonment” associated with them, and they seemed to be a bunch of parts created through wounds of abandonment. I could actually feel the emotions of abandonment they were carrying.

As Jesus healed them all, he led them into a single-file line and they began walking towards him. Right at his feet, they seemed to drop into the ground and to become integrated into me, and I felt a small shift taking place within as they did so.

Next, Jesus continued landscaping, arranging certain sections of land for the purpose of growing or containing certain plantings/fruit, and he created a channel in between the plots of land. He invited a large yellow ball of light, reminiscent of a star or of the sun into this place, and directed it to begin rolling down this channel and towards a dark pit. As the huge ball of light fell into the pit, Jesus brought in a second sun-like ball of light and allowed it to roll into the pit as well. The two “suns” began to rotate around each other inside this pit, creating a luminous effect. (Revelation refers to certain heavenly beings as “stars.” I wonder if these are a high order of angels?)

This pit, now lit up by two suns working in synergy, was filled with prisons that contained small fragments. Jesus removed all the prison bars and let them out, healing them and taking them to a better place to continue receiving help. Next, at the bottom of the prison, were found a group of reptiles crawling around on the floor, and Jesus began to sit with them, allowing them to crawl all over him, letting them get to know him.

I believe that these “reptiles” were actually what are known in some circles (HeartSync circles for instance) as “sub-cortical parts.” This is where some kind of trauma happens as such an early stage of development that parts were formed even before higher centers of the brain came online. Many animal type parts are found who represent fractures at the level of the “primitive brain” or brainstem, possibly from earlier stages in the womb. Their state is much like that of an animal, motivated by primitive drives without higher levels of function or comprehension. Seeds can also be found, representing the earliest stages of womb life or even pre-conception parts of the spirit.

As Jesus hung out with these reptiles, they soon turned into babies, and as I left him with them and checked back in a few minutes later, they had grown to young children. Jesus had been nurturing them and growing them up to maturity quickly. He dispatched the enemy, taught them a few lessons, and then led them out of the pit/prison to continue their healing and processing.

This is just one of many possibilities of what inviting Jesus to work in your inner world may end up looking like. So many different locations, structures, parts, strongholds, giftings, etc. can be found and ministered to as we just let him loose to dig up and heal whatever he chooses to.

It helps if you have some level of understanding and comfort with things in this realm, so that it doesn’t seem too “weird” and unbelievable to you. I receive many impressions visually, but if you don’t, that doesn’t mean you can’t do this. You could sense what is happening through hearing, or feeling, or knowing, or however you perceive things. You could maybe just invite him to move within you in these kinds of ways by faith and allow him to do it whether you have any specific sense of what he is doing or not. There are many things in the above example that I don’t totally understand or know all the details of, but my lack of full understanding doesn’t stop the Lord from moving.

The Lord Doesn’t Require Unbelievers to Believe (Lessons Learned Helping Parts Meet the Real Jesus)

We’re probably used to thinking of God as requiring people to trust him or to believe in him so that they can qualify for his help or his salvation. What if I told you that God doesn’t require faith from the unbelieving, but instead gives faith to unbelievers by proving himself trustworthy in their lives first? What if “saved by grace through faith, and that the gift of God,” actually means faith is something God builds in us as he reveals who he is to us, while not requiring it from those who don’t yet have it? Would this change the very foundation of much ministry as we know it? Let me explain a bit from an example of the Lord ministering to someone’s deep woundedness:

Whose Parts?

I was praying with someone who came from a great Christian family. She described her upbringing as very healthy, loving, and free of abuse. Like many church kids do however, she rebelled against Christianity as she got older, getting into drugs, dabbling in Eastern religions, running with the wrong crowds, etc. She was looking for something “real” as opposed to the lack of substance she had found in the Western Evangelical church. Despite her wholesome upbringing, she had just never encountered God in a way that was real to her.

After she found the Lord experientially as an adult, I ended up walking her through healing of some of her fractured parts which contained some of her issues. These ones seemed to come from more difficult, later times in her life, and had been created during times when she didn’t believe in Jesus. They still didn’t believe, even though the core of this woman was now strong in faith.

I think she was well adjusted overall when I first met her, and she had a strong, interactive relationship with God. Regardless of her wholesome and safe upbringing, current spirituality, and “well-adjustedness,” she still benefited significantly from healing her fractured parts.

WILL THE REAL JESUS PLEASE SHOW UP?

The morning before our scheduled prayer session, she believed the Lord was highlighting some specific issues from her past he still wanted to heal. I prayed at the beginning of the session and was shown a certain adult part of her who was driven to perform and to protect in certain ways. At first, it seemed we may have been getting conflicting directions since nothing was apparently lining up.

I quickly prayed over this part I was seeing and called it to the surface, to share anything which was on her heart with us. I made sure to let the woman know not to analyze her past or her emotions, that we didn’t need to figure all that out, but that we only needed to let the fractured part of her share what was on her (the part’s) heart.

It turned out that the pains and concerns the part was sharing from within this woman were very related to the issues in her past which the Lord had highlighted to her that morning. This was a time of great turmoil when she had felt very unsafe.

Like many fractured parts, this one was found in a spiritual house within the woman, and this house was actually a place of captivity representing the trauma she endured at the time. (Parts can be found in many different structures, such as dungeons, caves, corporate buildings, etc., but a house is probably most common.) When I asked the part how she felt about Jesus, she replied that she didn’t have faith in him, saying “I’m not sure if he’s real.”

Since I’ve run into this so often, where parts don’t believe in the Lord (and many times even hate him or aggressively refuse to trust him) and have seen these things resolved in the same ways over and over again, I reassured her that this would be no problem. I told her that Jesus doesn’t need her to believe in him, but that he would come and prove himself to her if she was only willing to give him a chance.

I started out by asking her if she knew of any gods or spirits who were already in the house. The words came back, “Pharmakia and Rebellion.” I asked how she felt about those spirits. She replied, “I’m only trying to make friends.” It turned out that these spirits were what the “cool” people were into at the time. I asked if she knew they were demons and that they were there to kill her. She said, “yes.”

I asked how it was going with these spirits helping her to make friends, and she said that she still felt very lonely. She agreed with me that these bad spirits weren’t doing their job very well, and absolutely agreed to have them removed. (Permission is usually all you need) As I told them to go, the part (and the woman overall) suddenly felt much more peaceful.

The reason why I went straight from talking about Jesus showing up and proving himself to asking about other spirits is because I’ve found the presence of other “gods” to be the main reason people’s parts end up encountering the wrong spirit when inviting the Lord in. No sin on the part of the person or their parts is going to stop the Lord from ministering to them (if they are willing to receive), but intentional agreements with other spirits in place of the Lord, where those beings have become “gods” or guides to the person and their parts, do tend to produce counterfeit encounters.

In other words, I’ve found that the Lord will reveal himself no matter what hurts or sins the parts are carrying (as long as they are truly willing for him to do that), but that literal relationship with other gods/spirits tends to be a blockage needing to be resolved before he will show up.

I believe this all just comes down to free will. Grace is absolute, but the Lord also respects our will absolutely.

I was asking the part what form she would be most comfortable with the Lord showing up as since he can take any form one is most at ease with. The important thing is the eyes of whatever shows up. Is there love in the eyes or are they cold, mean, and/or empty? Is everything in the eyes good, or is there something negative in there? That’s how you can know it’s the Lord or not. The Lord always allows the parts to see his eyes. Other spirits may look great everywhere else, and even can look just like Jesus in every other way, but will hide their eyes to hide their true nature.

You can also tell by how the spirit treats the parts. Is it helping and healing the woundedness, or only reinforcing the woundedness? The counterfeits are often passive and powerless, giving promises of healing but not actually doing anything, or they may be mean and aggressive, literally causing more problems. Hopefully though, you will check the eyes first so that you don’t need to let them go that far. If in doubt, you can always use your authority in Christ to expose or restrain counterfeits, and that will work if they are really counterfeits.

While I was still talking with the part and as she was sharing that she would like the Lord to come in a certain form, she noticed that something was already in the room seeming to take that form. It had wings like an angel and had blue light shining from all around it. It sounded like it could have been a real angel. It got down on one knee and began ministering to the part, consoling her, telling her that she was OK, that everything was fine. I kept urging her to check the eyes. She said they were green and blue, but I wanted her to tell me what emotions or qualities were coming from those eyes, not just what color they were.

The woman told me that this part wasn’t willing to trust this being, wasn’t willing to extend faith that this “God” was really good. I replied that she doesn’t need to extend any trust. I actually told her not to trust at all, because that wasn’t what we were doing. We were trying to discern the being, not trying to trust it.

I asked the part to look into its eyes again and to report what she saw. The woman began to relay to me that she was getting images of dead things with empty, dark eyes as her part was examining the eyes of this “angel.” As she realized that her job was not to automatically trust whatever showed up, she began to get some discernment about the being, that it was a fairy, not an angel. Fairies are a mythological (but actually spiritual) creature known for rebellion and mischief.

I walked the woman and her part through a generational renunciation, breaking any agreements ancestors may have made with fairies or with folk religions which would have invited relationship with fairies. I’ve found generational renunciation to be necessary and effective on certain occasions where, regardless of how many personal agreements with evil spirits were broken, people’s parts just kept on running into counterfeit after counterfeit as they were inviting God to reveal himself. As in those situations, after this renunciation, the fairy disappeared. The woman felt led to have her part break agreement with a certain form psychedelic drug use which could have been related to fairies, and she did that as well.

When we invited the Lord to reveal himself to the part now, Jesus came in the room in the form he is portrayed in Akiane’s paintings. The part said she always liked that image of Jesus, and was most comfortable with it. As she examined him, looking into his eyes, she could see love there, and could see no bad qualities, only good.

Jesus took her hand and began leading her out of the house, which had been her place of darkness and captivity. She felt great peace and freedom as she escaped that building. As they walked outside, Jesus began to hold her, allowing her to cry on his shoulder. He talked to her a little bit and asked her, “Do you trust me?” She exclaimed, “Yes!”

There was a little bit of further healing if I remember correctly, and then the part was integrated into the whole woman. She felt wonderful.

SOME THINGS TO PONDER

After the prayer session, I shared with the woman how smooth and easy her healing was going. I run into plenty of rougher cases. She was sharing how good her childhood had been, how little trauma there was, how loving her parents were, how she was raised in such a wholesome Christian home, etc. Those are all good things. She shared that her wayward times just came from her own rebellion.

I can’t give God credit for this with certainty, but I started to see the typical “Christian upbringing” from a little bit different perspective. I spontaneously began to share something with her which was coming out of that.

I shared that I was impressed with people I’d known who had grown up in really strong Christian homes, who had seemed so well rounded, relationally healthy, and balanced. I could clearly tell that their upbringing was vastly different than mine, where I had one parent emotionally absent for a little bit before soon being dead, and then the other parent too overwhelmed with survival to be there much, neither of whom were very churchgoing (So I was not either). On the other hand, I said that growing up in the church is often traumatic in its own way.

I referred to the Western Evangelical church as “a cult,” where great fear and shame are used to push people to agree with beliefs they have personally seen little or no evidence for, and where people are demanded, under threat of great punishment, to act like someone who knows God when they don’t actually know him.

I shared that she was never rebelling against God in her search for “forbidden” experiences. This was because she hadn’t known him yet. She had only been rebelling against the control tactics of a cult. She had done what any human being tends to do when intensely pressured to swallow and conform to standards and beliefs without any evidence, reacting in the opposite direction.

I pray with people who have grown up in church and in committed Christian homes who have come away with severe issues. People have had their very personhood taken away, turned into doormats for lifelong abuse in the name of submission and obedience to “godly authority.” Women have been convinced to submit to their husband’s beatings “as unto the Lord.”

People have formed “good” (complicit) parts and “bad” (rebellious) parts in an effort to cope with a home where they had to comply with control or abuse to be “good,” or at other times have had to accept a label of being “bad” to maintain their own sense of worth and individuality.

People have been condemned and terrorized by a god who “righteously” threatens eternal torture for those who fail to line up to a standard they just can’t meet. If you don’t agree with the right doctrines, if you don’t behave the right ways, if you sin differently than the accepted group, you are one of “them,” not one of “us.” But, what if God doesn’t work that way? What if he doesn’t shame and terrorize people into accepting his doctrines? What if he earns our trust by his actions before he expects us to believe something about him?

There was a popular evangelism method, “The Way of the Master,” which was spread through the churches not too many years ago. I think it was based on traditional Methodist theology or something like that. It was created by this open-air street evangelist, an incredibly gifted public speaker, who I don’t think saw more than a couple conversions per year. I could be wrong on that, but most of the examples I saw were of people just getting pissed off and deciding he was full of crap.

He would start by condemning the unbeliever because they don’t measure up to the law of Moses (which law was never God’s will in the first place if you look at the context it was given, an answer to a rebellious people who had refused the Lord’s offer of relationship, demanding rules to keep according to their own slavery mentality and barbaric culture of some 4000 years ago). Then, he would proceed into quoting some completely mistranslated and out of context verse, sentencing the unbeliever to an eternity in a torturous flaming hell (a doctrine not found in the original languages of scripture and not very well accepted among Christians until Catholicism took control in the fifth century AD).

All along, this preacher would be insinuating that the person who genuinely wasn’t sure yet if Jesus was the way, really did already know and was “without excuse,” based on a verse out of Romans 1. The idea presented in Romans 1, that mankind has some kind of connection to God within and a conscience about right and wrong making us accountable for our moral choices, was used to demand a leap of faith into swallowing all of this man’s beliefs about a condemning, child abusing God worse than Hitler and Freddy Kruger combined. This was obviously leading into a fear based life of strict denial of most of one’s own thoughts, feelings, and spiritual process of discovery.

Somehow, despite its dismal results in most places it’s been applied, that method of evangelism was spread throughout the church, even across denominational lines. Maybe it fit right in with the culture already in place? Maybe someone smarter than me can offer a better explanation for such strange events.

What if real evangelism isn’t meant to look anything like that? What if God simply never treats people like that? What if we are meant to patiently love people and introduce them to a direct encounter with God so they can know him for themselves? What if spiritual leadership is meant to lead people into knowing him directly instead of merely being controlled by man? Maybe we’d end up with some different statistics than the current ones which say most churchgoing kids drop out of their faith as soon as they leave for college.

A Better Look at Job

One of the biggest objections many Christians raise against God healing them is “What about Job?” I heard Bill Johnson give a good reply to that once, “What about Jesus? Job is the question to which Jesus is the answer.”

However, I see a very different story in the book of Job than most people do. This is partly because I come to the book believing that Jesus has revealed a more complete and accurate picture of who God is than the OT did, that he is absolute Love who is always healing and helping mankind, not siccing the Devil on us like some child abuser siccing pit bulls on his kids.

Many people interpret the book of Job as if it were saying God sicced Satan after Job, assuming that the devil was ultimately only doing the Lord’s will. Jesus made it clear that God and Satan are always totally opposed to one another in John 10:10. If we come to Job’s story with this perspective, we will read it in a very different light than how it has been often taught.

Jesus also reveals a more full picture of who we are: sons and daughters of God like himself, who have authority over the earth and over all the kingdom of darkness. It is we who determine what is allowed to happen in heaven and on earth through the authority we have been given. Whether good or evil is allowed to happen among us isn’t left to arbitrary decisions by a deity above. Even before Jesus, the Old Testament made this clear in Genesis 1:26, when God gave mankind authority over life on earth.

In Job 1, Satan is met with the Lord’s question, “Have you considered (set your mind upon) my servant Job, that there is none like him in all the earth, an upright man who fears God and who shuns evil?”

Most people assume that God was taunting Satan here, using Job as some extra tasty bait for the Devil just to prove something about his own worshipfulness. What if God was really only calling out Satan’s evil thoughts and schemes which were already in motion? Satan had been considering Job, looking for a way to take him out, and the Lord knew his every thought. God was only speaking on Job’s behalf, calling out the enemy’s plans to ruin and to kill Job. He was calling them out to put a stop to them. I imagine that the Lord was raising the hairy eyeball in Satan’s direction and speaking with anger in his voice when he said, “Satan! You’ve been considering my servant Job again, haven’t you?!”

Satan goes on to accuse Job before the Lord, claiming that if his blessings are taken away, he will curse God to his face. He even tries to tempt the Lord to harm Job himself; “…but put forth your hand and touch all he has, and he will curse you to your face!” Of course, James 1:13 tells us that the Lord cannot be tempted by evil. The Lord could not possibly have gone along with Satan’s temptation to do evil against Job. God responds, “Behold, all that he has is in your power, but do not touch his body.” Many people assume that God was giving Satan permission there to kill Job’s children and to destroy his possessions, but he really only stated a fact, that all Job owned was already under Satan’s dominion.

From the beginning of Job’s story, he was living in fear that his kids would sin during their wine filled parties. He was “continuously” (frantically) making religious sacrifices in an attempt to atone for the possibility that they “may have cursed God in their hearts.” Later, when his children were killed, his possessions destroyed, and his body was being afflicted he cried, “That which I have greatly feared has come upon me.”

Just as Job had feared, it was while his sons and daughters were drinking wine and partying that a natural disaster came upon them and ended their lives. One could easily infer that it was Job’s “great fear” which had opened the door and put his posterity and possessions into Satan’s power to begin with.

Satan referred to Job’s blessings of prosperity as the Lord “hedging him about and blessing all he does” during that first accusation. Many people teach that this hedge was a “hedge of protection” and that Satan was able to persuade the Lord to remove it so he could finally attack. The hedge is only referred to as being material blessing. Satan was saying that the Lord had “hedged” Job on all sides with prosperity. There never was a “hedge of protection.”

After Satan comes back from his first round of destruction, the Lord says to him, “Have you considered my servant Job… that there is nobody like him on earth, a man who fears God and shuns evil, and he maintains his integrity although you incited me against him to ruin him without cause?” I’m imagining God raising the “hairy eyeball” at Satan once again here, angrily calling out his continued scheming against Job, letting him know that he was already aware of his further plans to cause him harm.

When the Lord said that Satan had “incited” him to ruin Job without cause, this does not mean that God went along with the suggestion in any way. “Incite” is synonymous with “tempt,” and we know from the New Testament that God is not ever tempted by evil. The Lord was calling out Satan for this futile and wicked temptation, not saying it was successful.

This word translated in the NASB as “incite” also may have spoken of an accusation. The Lord was saying that Satan accused Job without cause. He accused Job that he would curse God to his face when his possessions were taken. Instead, Job worshiped the Lord and held to his integrity.

The passage says that Job didn’t accuse God of wrongdoing in his heart, although he did misunderstand the situation and assume that the Lord was responsible for taking his possessions. He said, “The Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord,” revealing that he didn’t have the same perspective at the time which the book bearing his name records after the fact, that it was Satan, not God, who was causing all the death and destruction.

Refuted after his first attempt, Satan tries a second, similar accusation, “All that a man has he will give for his life! Put forth your hand now and touch his bone and his flesh. He will curse you to your face.” The Lord responds that Job was already in Satan’s hand, but commands him to spare his life. In both situations, the Lord did everything he could to protect Job within the parameters which had been set by human will and human authority, even though Satan had already gained tremendous room to operate as a result of that misused authority.

The Accuser of the Brethren, and How Not to Overcome Him

The accuser knows a lot more about what is wrong with us than we typically do. He looks into the generational line and finds the slightest area of iniquity, examining us to find the slightest wrong motive of our hearts which can be used against us in the legal system of the spiritual realm. I’ve seen this play out over and over in the process of setting people free, where it becomes necessary to resolve the issues which are giving the demonic a foothold in somebody’s life.

Satan was repeatedly accusing Job of having mercenary affections, that he would worship as long as he was blessed, but would curse God in his heart if tragedy struck. Since the enemy’s accusations are always strategic and intelligently designed, not random, it is worth looking into why this particular accusation was chosen. It’s interesting that this was the very area Job was so “greatly afraid” that his sons would fail in during their parties. He was afraid they would “curse God in their hearts.” It may have been the fear itself which opened the door to the accusation, which is how things sometimes work, or it could be that this had been a real problem in Job’s past or in his generational line, which is also typical to see the demonic making all the use they can get from.

Often, the enemy will gain some foothold to cause trouble due to generational sins and strongholds, regardless of the current person’s lifestyle. Even though Job was strong in this area through his intense discipline in the fear of the Lord, some of his forefathers may not have been, and this may have been the reason why he was so afraid of his kids failing in that specific way. He may have seen his close relatives failing in this way or may have struggled with it himself. Satan would have insight into this unresolved generational issue, even if Job didn’t, and would be glad to milk it for all it was worth. Such a stronghold would not be difficult to resolve if one only knew that it was there, if they only knew what they were being accused of.

“Job’s comforters,” as they are known, went on to be a clear voice for the accuser in Job’s life. Rather than supporting him in his pain, they continually berated him and accused him of having brought the trouble upon himself, specifically accusing him of holding a wrong attitude in his heart against God in the midst of tragedy, just as Satan had been accusing him in the spiritual realm. The enemy’s accusations were being played out and revealed in the natural realm through demonic influence upon the people in his life.

Here’s where Job missed it: rather than agreeing with his adversary quickly and receiving cleansing by the blood, he begins to justify himself against the accusations. In Job 9:21 he proclaims, “I am guiltless!” He goes on to argue extensively for his moral blamelessness as a reaction to the demonic accusations. He testified to his rigid obedience according to so many righteous standards, yet he was only a human being and could not have possibly been totally “guiltless” in his character.

In Matthew 5:25, Jesus shared his advice for such a situation: to “agree with your adversary quickly… lest he hand you over to the judge and you be cast into prison.” Job apparently missed that one, and suffered for a long time as the accusation remained in place. He didn’t know about the accuser in the spiritual realm, or about his Father in heaven who was always on his side regardless of what circumstances looked like, or the blood of the Lamb which could clear his guilt as soon as it was admitted.

Whatever the area was of generational iniquity or religious fear which Satan’s accusation was originally based upon, it could have been admitted to and then washed away by the blood. (Yes, it was revealed after his time, but David, Abraham, and other Old Testament saints walked in New Covenant realities in earlier days, so Job could have as well.)

It wasn’t until Job 32, where Elihu prophesied a rebuke to Job’s self-righteousness and self-justification, resulting in the Lord’s presence showing up in a whirlwind and the voice of God himself confirming the rebuke, that Job finally repents and gives up on justifying himself before the Lord. At that point, he only needed to perform an act demonstrating forgiveness (praying for) his friends who had been a voice for the accuser against him before he could receive immediate restoration from all that Satan had done to him.

The Lord not only restored him, but multiplied his blessings and turned the temporary suffering he experienced into something not worthy to be compared with the glory revealed in his new condition.

Notice that the Lord rebuked every speaker other than Elihu, who had prophesied against Job’s self-justification near the end of the story. This means that Job’s three accusers were in the wrong, but Elihu’s somewhat similar rebuke was actually correct, and lead to his deliverance.

I don’t believe God set a time period for Job to suffer before being delivered, but I believe that Job could have been delivered at any point if he had only “agreed with his adversary quickly.” Job didn’t understand this when he said in ch 9:32-33 “For He (God) is not a man as I am that I may answer Him, that we may go to court together. There is no umpire between us, who may lay his hand upon us both.” Instead of relying on the blood of Jesus, Job followed his own performance based belief system, trying to receive from the Lord based upon his works.

The term for Satan as “accuser” or “adversary” is a legal term synonymous with “prosecuting attorney.” Jesus is known in the New Testament as our “advocate” or “defense attorney.” John wrote, “If any man sins, we have an advocate/defense attorney with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” We have someone to represent us in court and to clear the charges against us, even when we have actually sinned.

Recovering Promises

Although the Lord rebuked Job’s three comforters for “not speaking that which was right concerning me (God),” most of what they said was truth. They expounded upon how the Lord protects and blesses the righteous, how the descendants of the righteous are blessed and provided for, and how it is only sin which allows evil to happen. These things are all clearly, repeatedly, and powerfully confirmed throughout the rest of scripture.

If you have any doubt about that, read the book of Psalms. From psalm 1, which contrasts the blessing of the righteous which does not whither but bears fruit in all seasons as opposed to the destruction of the wicked, to psalm 91 with its promises that “no plague will come near your dwelling,” “you will not fear the arrow which flies by day or the destruction that wastes at noonday,” and “a thousand will fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you, you will only behold with your eyes the reward of the wicked,” the promises of God’s lavish blessing and absolute protection from everything are repeatedly made crystal clear for the righteous.

Perfect protection is the norm, and the only exception is the enemy’s work due to the open doors of humanity’s sin. In Jesus Christ, our promises of being made joint-heirs with him of all the Father’s kingdom and of all privileges afforded to the Son himself are made clear as well. Every promise is yes and amen in him. God doesn’t ever say no regarding his promises for the sake of some mysterious purpose or cosmic wager.

This is not to heap condemnation upon those who are going through hardship as I expect some will take it, but is meant to offer hope that the Lord has paid for our deliverance in full when he paid for our sins.

In olden days, the problem with all those promises of blessing and protection were that few could live up to the standards necessary to walk in them. People thought they had to perform their way into God’s righteousness and blessings. The New Covenant reveals that we can be made righteous by the work of the Cross rather than having to measure up ourselves, revealing that we can walk in the promises of God as a result of the free gift of grace.

It’s OK though that we aren’t experiencing everything purchased for us yet. Paul himself wasn’t experiencing all the benefits of the New Covenant yet. Many people refer to his “thorn in the flesh” in the same way that they refer to the book of Job, as evidence that God will send you affliction to teach you a lesson or for some mysterious purpose.

One problem with this is that we don’t see anything like that with Jesus. He healed all who came to him and never sent anyone away saying, “Nope, my Father is using your sickness to teach you a lesson, go your way and consider your sickness a blessing.” He didn’t miraculously put sickness upon anybody as a way of helping them get closer to God. He just healed and delivered every single person who was willing, revealing exactly how God always responds to people.

Paul refers to his “thorn in the flesh” as “the angelos (Gk) of Satan,” or “the angel of Satan.” He says it was sent to “buffet him.” He writes that he sought the Lord three times for it to be removed, and the Lord told him, “my grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”

Notice that the “angel of Satan” sent to buffet Paul was never said to have been sent by God or even allowed by him. Paul just said it was there. Also, notice that God never refused to remove it. He is only said to have given Paul an encouraging word. We also aren’t told that Paul didn’t eventually get delivered from this fallen angel.

One thing this tells me is that, like the rest of us, Paul was still in the process of receiving his redemption. He was still “working out his own salvation” as he wrote to the Philippians. Job was no different. Our Bibles have the Lord describing Job as being “blameless,” but obviously he had areas which needed to be corrected in his journey. What if the Lord simply chooses to see people as blameless, and loves to describe all his kids that way when he brags about them to others?

What if the high praises that the Lord sang over Job to the Devil are no more astounding that the praises he declares over you and me? He said that there was “nobody like him on earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and shunning evil.” Do you know that there is nobody like you on earth either? What if God would call out specific qualities that he sees uniquely in your life, which are no less significant than those found in Job? Job’s strengths were his fear of God and his shunning of evil, but what does the Lord say he especially appreciates about you? Why don’t you ask him?

A Few Helpful Resources

A Prayer to Release Trauma:

I’m not usually a big fan of pre-set prayers, but several people I’ve been praying with have found this helpful for them. I’ve seen this make a noticeable difference for some of those heavily traumatized and fractured:

Covenants Within Contracts Prayer:

These are a series of prayers developed by Arthur Burk to break hidden, oppressive spiritual covenants which people enter into when signing different kinds of contracts or agreements.

Covenants within Contracts

I share because when I prayed through it myself (experimentally) I felt some things lifting off of me. When I prayed through the one on the banking industry, I strongly felt something lift out of my leg. My bank (Chase) was specifically mentioned in that track as being a likely one to include hidden covenants.

Richard Rohr on Becoming Stillness:

I love this guy’s incredible insights on so many subjects. Here, he shares many useful things about contemplative prayer as a means of finding peace within.

Healing the Human Spirit:

This is a great presentation from Dr Rob Ruckert on healing the human spirit:

A Resource for Understanding Ministry to DID:

Restoration in Christ Ministry (RCM), originally led by Dr. Tom Hawkins and now by his widow, Diane Hawkins (an SRA survivor herself) has been heavily working with DID and such since the 1980’s (if I remember correctly). They have been one of the early pioneers to teach ministry to fractured parts and certain related subjects, such as the courts of heaven, to the widespread body of Christ.

Their approach seems to be focused on the most extreme end of the scale, rather than on ministry to the common fractured parts everyone has which I’m usually talking about in my posts. Nevertheless, the principles are often the same.

I can’t promise that all the healing approaches taught would be something I would endorse. I’ve run into widespread use of approaches I don’t endorse, usually called “memory work” or “memory healing,” which I’ve found to be unnecessary and unnecessarily traumatic for people when working with their more significant fracturing. I’m a bit concerned that this ministry may still be teaching that approach, by the looks of the names of some of their seminar modules.

Still, they are going to have tremendous wisdom and insight into the general subject of understanding DID and ministry to it, even if my suspicions are correct. I expect that I could learn a ton from their decades of intensive experience.

Education is helpful here, and I don’t think it’s healthy to only get your info on such a thing as this from only one source.

An Encouragement for Those in a Healing Process:

You don’t need to have this all figured out. This isn’t about figuring out an equation to get yourself healed. The Lord is healing you. It is your job to rest and receive, nothing more. HE is your healer, just believe it and let him continue to do it.

Let him love you. He wants to take the burdens from you. This isn’t about you having to perform or have all the answers. You never possibly could, but he does, and he is leading you in them. He is perfectly faithful to complete that which he has begun in you and will do it. Again, your job is just to receive.

Many times we can get all caught up in thinking we have to figure out how to get healed, work the equation, learn everything, make it happen, but redemption doesn’t work like that. Redemption is a gift from the lover of your soul, and he is redeeming you piece by piece, whether you see it all happening now or not. Just let him do it. If you could do it yourself there would be no need for the cross.

It is good to learn from others, to learn wisdom about how the spiritual and human internal realms work, and about how the Lord often works in those realms. At the same time, let him be your guide. Let him be your source. Just let him do what he wants to do, what he has already given everything he had so that he could do for you.

Parts Within Parts and Gender Bender Parts

I’ve tended to share basic, introductory concepts related to what I do in deeper healing on this blog. Here, I’m offering a glimpse into a little more advanced possibilities. I’m going to share examples of:

-parts within parts     -half-human/half-demon parts     -gender bender parts

Examples are shared with permission, omitting identifying info.

Parts Within Parts

I was walking someone through healing a fractured part from deep rejection. In both simple memory healing and deeper work with fractured parts, I’ve consistently found it necessary to resolve anger and shame first to fully resolve other negative emotions (such as rejection.) I find that the Lord will consistently remove all the anger, shame, and remaining negative emotions if the parts carrying them are only willing to give him permission.

Parts may require some conversation with you and/or the Lord to become willing to give this permission. Once you have permission, you can command the bad stuff out (using your authority in Christ), or get the part in contact with the Lord and allow him to do it himself while you merely sit back. (Make sure it’s the real Jesus though, by checking whether everything in his eyes is loving and good. A false Jesus won’t be able to bring healing.)

In trying to remove anger from this part, I was running into an unusual problem. The anger wasn’t fully being removed, and the person was experiencing an awareness of a black cord, covered in barbed wire,  connected to the anger inside their fractured part and twisted up within them. Trying to command the anger out had the futile effect of pulling on this barbed cord. It wasn’t going to budge

As the person receiving prayer examined the black cord, there was another fractured part within the first fractured part, who was holding onto the end of the cord. This part was much younger and smaller than the first and also in worse condition. It seemed to be a toddler, yet appeared in such bad shape that we had some question about whether it even was a part. Was it possibly a demon instead?

I separated the demonic from the human aspects of this part (through a command of faith), and bound and restrained the demonic from having any influence or control over it. That seemed to help its condition, but I forgot to get permission from the part to remove the demons completely. This toddler was covered in something red, which turned out to be anger (surprise surprise), and as we invited Jesus to minister to her, layers of this redness were being removed.

The toddler’s eyes were filled with darkness, and that prompted me to get its permission to remove all the demons. When they left, the baby’s eyes changed to normal blue. After a bit of work and a bit of letting Jesus minister to and talk to the toddler, it became willing to let go of the black, barbed cord so that the anger could be removed from the older part who the toddler lived within. The issue was that it needed to know Jesus could protect it, that it didn’t need the anger for protection anymore. This was resolved and the part set at ease as the Lord spoke with her.

There were further steps to walk this toddler part through, and it became ready to be integrated in only a few minutes. The older part had been receiving ministry for maybe three or four hours already (two sessions), then received a bit more significant help even after the Lord had healed the toddler living within her. She needed to be walked through the resolution of many different wounds and strongholds overall.

As I’ve shared before, I find it of great importance to bring healing to all the issues a part is carrying before integration, because whatever the part has is going to be integrated into the person when that happens.

Some of her and her toddler’s issues required generational repentance to resolve. (I had to lead the fractured parts through prayers of generational repentance, rather than only leading the core identity through that.) As I write this, the older part is still not fully healed or integrated, but I suspect would be ready for that very soon.

This is just an example of a complication, where a fractured part contained a fractured part of its own, and that part was heavily demonized, actually joined to the demonic as one.  (This is different than just being infested, but is a matter of actually being joined together as one being.) That part within a part needed a command of faith to separate the demonic aspect of itself from the human aspect before it could be worked with and before it could give permission for the demonic to be fully removed. All this was necessary before the anger of the older part could be resolved and we could move onto healing the deepest layers of rejection.

In these situations (where the demonic is joined to the human), I’ve found that trying to merely cast out or bind up the demons simply doesn’t work, because the demonic is woven together with the humanity, and you can’t cast out or bind up a human part of someone. A good clue to this is when someone has a “demon” that doesn’t obey commands of authority in Christ. If it were only a demon, that would be impossible. You can know that you are dealing with something else in those situations. The demonic aspect of the part must be separated from the human aspect of it before commands of authority will have an effect on the demonic. I run into this issue regularly.

Gender Bender Parts

In another instance, I was praying with a man who had a fragment (small part) which appeared as a very thin woman wearing a dress. This is not uncommon either. When there is a woman part within a man or vice versa, it doesn’t mean that they are transgendered or anything like that.

This means that some part of the person has rejected an aspect of their gender, or at least their perception of an aspect of their gender. I’ve always found the Lord to turn the opposite gendered parts back to the same gender as the host if ministry continues long enough.

As we identified some of the emotions that this woman part was holding, we were able to get some pains removed. We invited Jesus to come minister to her and were sure to have the woman look in Jesus’ eyes to check if everything in them was good, then to relay what she saw back to us. This is important because it can be so easy to run into spirits pretending to be Jesus, who look and seem like him in many ways, yet will always have something dark or creepy in their eyes. There are lots of religious spirits running around out there.

As the real Jesus was identified and as he ministered to this woman, we found that she was a motherly part of the person who was taking care of three young boy parts hidden under her dress. As in the previous example, these kids were in real bad shape.

I prayed to separate, bind and restrain the demonic from having any influence on them, and then asked for their permission to get rid of all the demons. I saw the two on the left raising their hands urgently that they wanted the demons gone, and the one on the right pointing to the other two, saying that they really needed help with their demons.

I had to explain to him that I wasn’t asking him about the other two, but about whether he was willing to have his own demons removed. He then raised his own hand to give permission as well. As I commanded the demons to be removed, all three kids took out jars containing insects, snakes, and maybe other creepy-crawlies, opened them, and let these “pets” slither, crawl, or fly away.

The three kids were healed from some more issues, fused into one if I remember right, then walked through some more healing before being integrated.

As the mother part received more ministry from the Lord, it seemed that she was becoming more “gender neutral,” and was becoming more agreeable to the idea of being changed back into a man. As I prayed for her name, body parts, clothes, and everything else to be changed back to the correct gender, she turned into a man who was wearing a dirty laborer’s uniform.

A later step of healing for this part (as the Lord spontaneously revealed) was to be taken into a heavenly shower facility to be cleansed. He came out clean, but with an alter-ego attached to his side. I wasn’t sure what to do about this, so I prayed for healing of this alter ego and a fusing together with the original part. (Fusing is where you join parts together with each other, rather than integrating them into the core person. It can be helpful as an intermediate step to make parts easier to work with if you have too many.)

Immediately, the man was perceived as being back to his prior state of being dressed in a dirty laborer uniform! I prayed to separate them again, and they were back to being a clean guy with a bad alter-ego joined at the hip.

It turned out necessary to have the two fully separated and this alter-ego removed. I think it was something demonic or possibly a disembodied human spirit attached to the part. Either way, it turned out to be something needing removal, not integration.

In this sort of healing, I’ve learned some things but am also stumbling around plenty of times, making mistakes, discovering new insights, and learning as I go. The good news is that the Lord is right there to clean up any messes and move things forward in a productive way even if I do miss something.

We need to be willing to learn by experience with all this. We can apply knowledge we’ve learned since many situations repeat in person after person, but there will always be new problems to solve as well.

I wish I could say I always know exactly what the Lord is going to do, but reality is that I rely on a combination of revelation, acquired knowledge and wisdom, and just kinda fumbling around trusting that somehow the Lord is able to show up and help people even if I don’t know all the answers. He’s really good at helping people despite my lack.

So, if you are wondering how to get started in this area, even in praying for yourself (since I and the people I know who do this are very limited in ability to take on new people), maybe I can say it’s time to get out of the boat and walk on the water? Even if you fall, there is someone right there to pick you up. Just make sure it’s the Jesus with love in his eyes, not the other guy. (That was a bit of a joke. He’s still with you to pick you up even if you contact the other guy by accident first, as I have more than once.)

A Glimpse Into the Afterlife: Plundering the Gates of Hell, Freeing Captives in this World and That

Before I was scheduled to pray for a woman, I was shown to go after freeing her from disembodied human spirits which had been passed down her generational line.

I’m talking about dead people. People who have passed on and who were still spiritually bound. They are sometimes caught in captivity by the demonic and used to oppress their own descendants (or others). I’ve run into this consistently, and have seen real fruit from freeing people from such things (including in my own life).

Here is a link to Dave Nevins’ quick explanation of this subject if it is a new one to you.

The enemy has no power other than what we give him, so what better way to establish his foothold in people than to implant the spirits of his captives within them. This seems to be a very common strategy which he uses to fortify his grip on people and on geographic locations.

I’ve found that these human spirits infect their host with the spiritual bondages, physical and emotional issues they themselves carry. Sometimes they even intentionally work against the person, either out of their personal wounding and malice or on a direct assignment from the enemy.

Some are just lost or operating with a more neutral type of agenda, looking to get a need met or not knowing where else to go. Freeing someone from disembodied human spirits not only tends to clear them from whatever problems were being caused by their presence, but can lead to these spirits meeting the Lord, finding redemption, healing, and deliverance, moving on into glory.

I was shown a “boss” human spirit, a large and broad man, appearing dark skinned, who was in charge of the captivity of a number of other human spirits. He himself was under the authority of the enemy. I was led to try to reach him, to set him and those under his authority free, which would free the woman up from the bondages they were carrying. When I told her about the “boss” (without sharing identifying characteristics), she said that she had seen him standing at the foot of her bed the night before. She described him as a very large, scary man with somewhat dark colored skin.

One exciting aspect of this prayer time, besides the opportunity to explore an area few have shared much detail about publicly, was the fact that the woman I was praying for is incredibly spiritually sensitive. She sees visions like movies playing in front of her in HD clarity, and has a very strong sense of when the Lord is confirming the truth of this or that revelation. She had little to no grid for this subject, and so this experience was shaping up to be a great learning experience for the both of us.

Meeting “Boss Man.”

I called for this boss spirit within her to come to attention, sharing that I wanted to free him as well as his host from all the torment and bondage they were living in. I invited the Boss Man to tell me his story or to share anything he wanted to share. The woman I was praying for could see him, and but could tell that he wasn’t too happy with me or willing to talk. His lips were sealed tight, other than apparently the words, “Let’s tango.”

I used a tool I’ve found effective in working with fractured parts, which I’ve also found to be effective with disembodied human spirits. (People are people, alive, dead, or fractured, they can be healed and freed in the same ways.) I bound and restrained the demonic from manipulating or controlling the man, and asked him if he was willing to be freed from it. When he said yes, I simply commanded all the demonic to leave him and never return. He softened up quite a bit after that quick prayer.

As the Boss Man began to share, it turned out that he was in charge of a number of other human spirits within this woman, and that he reported to the “Black One.” He was unwilling to break his agreement with the “Black One,” saying that the other spirits needed it “especially the little one.” I questioned him about what the Black One did for them, trying to find out what need was being met so that I could share how the Lord could do a better job of meeting those needs.

Did the Black One offer some kind of protection? Boss Man said no.  He said that the Black One didn’t do a whole lot for any of them. I thought maybe the only reason Boss Man was unwilling to break agreement would be a fear of punishment, for himself and for the ones under his authority.

I declared that I was binding up the “Black One” in chains, completely immobilizing him so that he could do no harm, dragging him into the room before the Boss Man, and putting him down on the floor. Boss Man said that he could now see the “Black One” lying in front of him bound. It turned out as I suspected, that this Black One was a huge demon.

I shared that the human spirits didn’t have anything to worry about from this guy. I shared that Jesus could meet all his needs and the needs of the other spirits, could heal and free them all, including the little one he had spoken of. Boss Man replied, “Who is this Jesus?”

I declared by faith that I was putting a movie in front of the Boss Man, which would show who Jesus is. Boss watched the movie and then said he was “unmoved.” I told him that Jesus was the one who gave me authority to put the Black One in chains. Boss was unimpressed, saying that he’d seen it done before.

I asked him who he had seen put the Black One in chains before? Boss said, “the Red One.” I wondered if there had been some encounter with an angel, or maybe with a praying Christian or something like that. I asked Boss if “the Red One” was a good guy or a bad guy. Boss shared that he was “very mean and vicious.” (That sounded like a bad guy to me.)

I declared that I was now binding the “Red One” in chains, completely immobilizing him so that he could do no harm, and dragging him into the room, putting him down on the floor next to “Black One” at Boss’ feet. It turned out that Red One was an even bigger, nastier demon than Black One, but was now rendered powerless just the same.

I asked Boss if he could see the Red One next to Black One now, and he said “Yes,” exclaiming, “I believe!” He became willing to meet this Jesus I had spoken of.

Before inviting Jesus in, just as when working with fractured parts, I’ve found it necessary to get the human spirits to break all agreements with other spirits who have been in the Lord’s place in their lives. Otherwise, Jesus refuses to override the person’s will and they tend to encounter evil counterfeits rather than the true Jesus. I asked Boss if he’d been involved in the occult or any religions, trying to discern whether he would have picked up any bad “spirit guides.”

Boss said that no, he hadn’t been involved in any religions or spiritual practices, but that he did have an agreement with Death. He described Death as being a dark figure whose face was hidden under a brown hood. I offered to put that guy in chains too, to bring him in and seat him next to the other two, just to show that he had nothing to worry about from breaking agreement.

Boss replied, “NO! DON’T DO THAT!” He seemed to be terrified at the idea of bringing the brown hooded one into the room, and the woman I was praying for could feel his overwhelming terror herself. She nearly wanted to stop the session because the emotions she was feeling from this man were so extreme now.

Boss man said the chains wouldn’t be necessary, that he would simply break his agreement with Death. I got his permission to have Death, Black One, Red One, and all other bad spirits totally removed, along with the fear he was feeling. As I was commanding all that to go, the woman felt the fear leave and the wild emotions settle down.

When we invited Jesus to come in and reveal himself, the woman heard Boss exclaim, “My Lord!” and “I’ve come home!” I asked Boss to examine this Jesus, to tell us what he saw, especially in his eyes. I was making sure that this was not a counterfeit, that it truly had love in the eyes. Boss described this Jesus as “the embodiment of compassion, Life itself, Love, Warmth, a cool drink of water.” I said that sounds like the real Jesus! (and come to think of it, I guess it turns out you can get a glass of ice water in hell if you know who to ask…)

Jesus related to the Boss a bit, and then opened four cast-iron doors behind him. Out of three of those doors came numerous human spirits, some with happy grins, others with tears of joy, rushing out to meet Jesus, finding healing and freedom. Behind the fourth door was an animal like creature, which Jesus healed, turning it back into the form of a child.

Jesus brought the child to the woman, integrated it into her. He led the group of human spirits, Boss included, away to a better place out of captivity and outside the living woman.

This woman described herself as “light as a feather and glowing” after all this was done. She commented that she couldn’t believe how light she felt, how heavy all those human spirits must have been.

A Fear-Less Guide to Encountering Deceptive Spirits, The False Jesus, etc.

See that guy? He’s not really Jesus. I can explain: Many have been taught to be way too worried about deceiving spirits. At the same time, I’ve run into plenty of those buggers, and can’t dismiss the issue.

The fear of deception is exactly what keeps us vulnerable to deception, because it keeps us from developing experience with the True. If we don’t push the edges of our comfort zones and grow in experientially encountering the Lord, we will always lack the knowledge of the true necessary to spot a deceiver.

The main issue is trusting his heart, that if we ask for bread he won’t give us a serpent. From there, once we’ve eaten a lot of bread, we can learn to spot a serpent, because a serpent isn’t very much like bread.

Did you know that there really are “false Jesuses” out there though? Even Paul wrote about “another Jesus,” and he’d never been south of the border. Recently, I prayed with three people for deep healing within the span of a week, each of whom needed to be delivered from false Jesuses. These people lived in vastly different parts of the world (West Coast U.S., East Coast U.S., and South Asia), had completely different ethnic backgrounds and life histories.

I’m sure that three in a week is a low number for some of those who are praying on this level with people full time (I’ve run into this so often). Dealing with these counterfeit spirits wasn’t any big deal, and I’ve never found them too difficult to recognize or to remove.

I’ve often run into “evil Jesus” while working with people’s fractured parts, especially if they come from a religious background or a religious heritage (i.e. most people on some level). The main problem I’ve seen these cause is that they prevent the person’s parts from coming into relationship with the true Jesus.

How I often walk people’s fractured parts through healing is to get them into relationship with Jesus, and then to have him do the heavy lifting of counseling and healing them directly. I’ve found that to be the most effective, quickest, and easiest way to bring healing in that area. This can be difficult though if they think they already know Jesus, but know a false one instead, or if they have been abused by something they think is Jesus, and now want nothing to do with him.

I’ve run into this when I’ve asked people’s fractured parts if they can see Jesus nearby, or to ask him about such and such, or to ask him to heal them from this or that, and they have turned to their familiar spirit who has been dressed up like Jesus, but who (for one thing) is unable to heal them.

Dealing with all this becomes necessary because people are very often fragmented, and sometimes dissociated at higher levels (like DID, etc.), and these fragments/parts have their own needs for ministry. I basically learned about this through getting healed from it myself, having plenty of dramatic experiences along the way.

I found out I needed such things by searching for answers for others who were dealing with worse, being led to the beginning of some answers, then realizing in the process that I needed the same kind of healing those people did. Then, it seemed that most people could benefit from this, just on various levels.

I wasn’t shy to experiment with Holy Spirit, or to learn from others who had lots of previous experience. A decade and a half later, I still have the privilege of praying with and seeing quite a few people being healed in this area. It’s just one more of the multiple facets of deeper healing and transformation paid for us through the work of the cross. I’m also watching as many more people are starting to learn about such things and applying them nowadays. That’s a long story made very short, but let’s move along with the subject, shall we?

All About Jesus’ Evil Twins as Seen in Fragment Land

Like I said, this area of working with people’s fractured parts is where I’ve run into many Jesus impostors. I’m not convinced that this is the only place they exist. I have a hunch that there would be lots of them hanging around your local house of religion, inspiring sermons and prayers and such, but I’ve only seen them exposed while working with fractured parts.

These “false Jesuses” have never been hard to recognize for anyone who knows to check for such things, and who has a basic familiarity with the ways of the true Jesus. One test I’ve never found to fail, is to have the fractured parts look into the eyes of the thing presenting itself as Jesus, and to check whether there is love in those eyes. The true Jesus always has love in his eyes, while a counterfeit will have cold eyes, or hateful eyes, or something of that nature (usually cold).

You can also often tell by the way “Jesus” treats a person and their parts. If he’s mean, condemning, sexually, physically, or verbally abusive, etc., then it’s not the real Jesus. Easy. Also, the bad Jesus won’t be able to heal the parts’ pains and issues, but the real Jesus can and will take those things away like magic as he is given permission to by the parts who were holding them.

The false Jesus tends to not be able to dress in all white (representing purity in the spiritual realm), but will have other colors. In one case, a false Jesus seemed to be dressed in all black with a white stripe down the center, like a skunk, and he even smelled like a skunk. Other times, it’s been more subtle.

The parts only need to be shown that the fake Jesus is fake, and to give permission for him to be removed. They only need to look into his eyes and check for love. Then, you can remove him with a command. Now, you can introduce the kiddos to the real Jesus, and let him start healing them.

So, making this relevant to more than just healing fractured parts, let’s look at how the “evil Jesus” has been known to operate. Maybe we can draw general principles from that of how the enemy counterfeits spiritual things in our lives.

I’ve seen the fake Jesus be like a voice of self-criticism on steroids, always drawing attention to something to accuse or condemn about the person. John 3:17 tells us that the the real Jesus didn’t come to condemn the world, but to save it. That means that even “the world,” the system of people who are actively involved in sin and not even asking for a savior, are not being condemned by the true Jesus. Instead, he is saving them.

The false Jesus will beat you up for your sins, and anything else he can possibly get you to feel bad about just the same, all in the name of “conviction.” Self condemnation and self criticism leads us to become critical and condemning of others too, so it shows up outwardly.

The fake Jesus is cold and rigid, more about “obedience” than relationship. He seems to just kind of keep things “decently and in order,” as in everybody staying within the lines, staying wounded and dead inside, not daring to do much for the sake of avoiding being wrong, not making any real progress. The biggest thing he seems to do is to keep people’s hurting parts from coming into relationship with the true Jesus, because they think they already have that.

Talking about being lifeless, I recall one person who had a false Jesus who was only a framed picture of Jesus, like the picture at the top of this blog post. Instead of relating to this person’s fractured parts personally, this picture of Jesus merely stood for the teachings and rules passed down from authority figures early in life. This person’s fractured part needed to see that their “Jesus” wasn’t real, and that the true Jesus wanted to be in actual relationship with them.

Some people’s parts refuse to meet with Jesus, because they think they have met him already, whether in the form of a spirit or in the form of the example of religious institutions and people. I’ve found different folks’ parts refusing to receive help from Jesus because they think he hates everybody and is going to send them to hell, or because they think he endorses various forms of abuse which are common in religion, such as shaming and condemning people, oppression of women, etc.

I’ve had a few people whose parts have raised the objection of hell, that if there is a forever hell which God is going to send people to, he must be a bad guy and someone to stay clear of. As long as they held a belief in this “hell,” they weren’t going to dare let Jesus talk to them or begin healing them. I’ve had to explain to them how that is a false doctrine based only on mis-translations, and I’ve even had to invite the real Jesus to explain the truth to them directly. I’ve then listened in as he has explained how there is no such thing as a “hell” of eternal torment for anybody, how he would never create such a thing.

For those who are freaking out now, I know of no better current theology source on the subject than Richard Murray, who has a great, scholarly pdf, “The Question of Hell,” which is usually free online but down at the moment. For now, here is a FB note of his using some of its content:
